PAT Testing, now known as Electrical Equipment Testing (EET), is the process of inspecting and testing electrical equipment to ensure it complies with safety standards and is safe for continued use. Testing comprises two parts – 1) a visual inspection to ensure the plug, cabling and housing is undamaged and 2) a series of electrical tests to ensure the user is kept safe from electric shock. When a test is completed a sticker is placed on the appliance indicating a pass or fail. Any appliances that fail and cannot be repaired will be recorded, removed from use immediately and given to the duty holder. Most intervals are 12 months however, they can be shorter or longer depending on your own risk assessment.
We are a proud member of the Portable Appliance Testing Trade Association (PATTA) whose primary aim is to raise standards throughout the PAT testing industry. This is achieved by improving support, training and qualifications and members must adhere to their working standards at all times. This includes, but is not limited to, the inspector being competent, using suitable PAT testing equipment and conducting inspecting and testing in line with the objectives of the current IET Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical equipment.
